Superb machine embroidered squadron patch from the 422nd Night Fighter Squadron who flew the deadly P61 Black Widow Night Fighter from Charny Down AF, Scorton Yorkshire and Hurn Hampshire before moving to the continent with the advance across Europe.The patch shows the ultimate night hunter the bat in his pilot goggles and armed with a smoking pistol & knife dripping blood. Great looking machine embroidered 130mm (5") diameter patch of the 703rd Bomb Squadron from the 445th Bomb Group based at Tibbenham - Station124 with the 8th USAAF. Flying B24 Liberators in the Europe Air Offensive from Nov 1943 - May 1945 with a unit citation for the mission to the Gotha aircraft works on 24th Feb 1944. These boys had a tough time with the highest loss ever recorded for a Bomb Group of 30 planes on a mission on 27th Sept 1944 when they were decimated near Kassel by a "sturmgruppen" of 48 plus heavily armoured FW-190 who made head on attacks on the 445th Liberators leaving 20 burning B24 wrecks in 3 minutes. This boy is delivering his bombs by hand - nice version of the squadron patch worn by members of the 790 Bombardment Squadron from the 467th Bomb Group USAAF who were based at Rackheath airfield in Norfolk during WW2 flying the big liberator bombers with Red & White tail markings.

Part of the 94th BG based at Bury St Edmunds AF 468 in Suffolk these boys flew the daylight missions to Germany in their yellow tailed B17 Flying Fortresses from May 1943 to July 1945 taking part in some of the famous missions and sustaining heavy losses.
