Leather Squadron Patch - 363FS - 357FG - USAAF

Great hand painted leather patch for the 363rd fighter squadron from the 357th Fighter Group or Yoxford boys as their base was at Leiston near Yoxford. Flying the P-51 B and D/K Mustang the group flew 313 missions claiming over 700 enemy aircraft and contained several aces such as Bud Anderson, John England, Robert Foy, Richard Peterson, and Chuck Yeager who later broke the sound barrier. Patch is approximately 125mm or 5" in diameter and suitable for your A2, B3 and B10 jacket. Good quality hand painted group patch for the 392d Bombardment Group (Heavy) on who flew B24 Liberators from Wendling Airfield. Attacked such targets as an oil refinery at Gelsenkirchen, a marshalling yard at Osnabruck, a railroad viaduct at Bielefeld, steel plants at Brunswick, a tank factory at Kassel, and gas works at Berlin. Took part in the intensive campaign of heavy bombers against the German aircraft industry during Big Week, 20-25 Feb 1944, being awarded a DUC for bombing an aircraft and component parts factory at Gotha on 24 Feb. . Known as the Travelling Circus the 93rd was the first US Bomb Group to be deployed to the UK but were deployed to North Africa for combat duty until their return in late February 1943 and again later during the war.
